Old Port Boca Grande

Its square wood tower and keeper's dwelling perched atop iron stilts,
the Boca Grande lighthouse protects the entrance to Charlotte Harbor
near Fort Myers. Since its completion in 1890, erosion threatened
the picturesque structure and the U.S. Coast Guard finally abandoned
it in 1967. Fortunately, funds to build a protective rock jetty and
restore the lighthouse were raised by a conservation association,
and the station was returned to service in 1986.
