Ronald Green named President of FPL Energy
JUNO BEACH, Fla. - FPL Group, Inc. (NYSE: FPL) today announced
the appointment of Ronald F. Green as president of FPL Energy, LLC,
a wholly owned subsidiary in the independent power production business.
Mr. Green, 53, will assume his position in early December and will
succeed Lew Hay, formerly president of FPL Energy and now president
and CEO of FPL Group.
Mr. Green brings more than 30 years of experience in managing a
wide array of energy business activities. He most recently served
as president and CEO of Duke Engineering and Services, Inc. and president
and chief operating officer of DukeSolutions, Inc., both subsidiaries
of Duke Energy. He also has served as a member of the board of directors
of Duke Energy Trading and Marketing, Duke/Fluor Daniel and DukeSolutions,
Inc. He joined Duke Energy in April 1999.

industry experience, especially in power plant construction, energy
marketing and trading and project development," said Mr. Hay. "We
are pleased to have such an energetic and enthusiastic leader at
the helm of our growing independent power business."
FPL Energy will own and operate approximately 5,100 megawatts of
electricity generating facilities by the end of 2001. New power plants,
most of which are currently under construction, will add another
5,000 megawatts to the company's portfolio by the end of 2003. The
subsidiary contributes approximately 15 percent of FPL Group's earnings,
the balance coming from its primary subsidiary Florida Power & Light
Company.
Prior to joining Duke Energy, Mr. Green was president of Tejas Power
Generation, responsible for leading the development of the power
generation business of Tejas Energy, an affiliate of Shell Oil Company.
He has had extensive experience in managing the engineering and construction
of power plants, having held senior management positions with Fluor
Corporation and Duke/Fluor Daniel over a 15-year period. Mr. Green
was the founding president of Duke/Fluor Daniel in 1989, which today
has revenues of more than $4.5 billion.
A native of Tennessee, Mr. Green has a bachelors of science degree
in engineering physics and a masters in engineering administration
from the University of Tennessee. He also has completed advanced
management programs at the Wharton School of Business and the American
Graduate School of International Management.
Mr. Green serves as member of the board of directors and chairman
of its executive committee for the College of Engineering at the
University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He also is an advisory board
member for the National Society of Black Engineers and is a member
of the American Nuclear Society and the American Society of Mechanical
Engineers.
